About tickets
This day includes stops that must be reserved in advance (such as sumo, museums or workshops). I help you with the practical arrangements — you only pay the original price, with no markup or added fees on the ticket cost.

Kyoto Station
5 minWe meet at Kyoto Station in the morning and head straight out so we can reach our first destination ahead of the main crowds. We will have plenty of time to admire Hiroshi Hara's futuristic station building when we return in the afternoon.

Bamboo Grove
45 minWelcome to Arashiyama Bamboo Grove! Enter an ethereal world as towering bamboo stalks rise endlessly on both sides, their leaves rustling in the wind like whispered secrets. This is one of Japan's most magical experiences, especially in the early morning. I will guide you through the most photogenic sections and less crowded paths.

Okochi Sanso Garden & Matcha
45 minAt the very end of the bamboo path lies the hillside villa garden of silent-film star Denjiro Okochi. Winding paths lead past moss, maples and tea houses to the best view over all of Kyoto, and the entrance ticket includes a bowl of matcha with a sweet.

Tenryu-ji Temple
1 hourA UNESCO World Heritage site and Arashiyama's most important temple. The Sogenchi Garden, designed by the legendary Muso Soseki in the 14th century, is considered one of Japan's finest—a masterpiece of borrowed scenery incorporating the distant mountains into its design.

Togetsukyo Bridge
20 minThe iconic 'Moon Crossing Bridge' spans the Katsura River and is the symbol of Arashiyama. Dating from the 9th century (though rebuilt many times), it offers beautiful views of the river, mountains, and traditional boats. The surrounding area is particularly stunning during cherry blossom and autumn seasons.

Lunch & Arashiyama Shopping Street
1 hour 30 minEnjoy lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Katsura River, famous for tofu cuisine and traditional Kyoto dishes. Then browse the charming shops along the main street, selling Kyoto crafts, bamboo products, matcha sweets, and traditional souvenirs. Sample local treats like matcha ice cream or yuba (tofu skin) croquettes.

Saihoji (Kokedera) Moss Temple
1 hour 30 minDiscover Japan's most famous moss garden at this UNESCO World Heritage temple. Over 120 varieties of moss carpet the grounds in endless shades of green, creating an otherworldly atmosphere. The garden was designed by the legendary Muso Soseki in the 14th century. Note: Saiho-ji requires an advance application well ahead of time. For bookings made on shorter notice, we visit the equally serene moss garden at Gio-ji Temple in Arashiyama.

Kyoto Station
Our bamboo and moss journey concludes back at Kyoto Station. From the serene bamboo groves to the mystical moss gardens, we've experienced Arashiyama's most enchanting natural treasures.
