Inari Station (JR)
The journey begins at JR Inari Station, just steps from the shrine entrance. This is one of Japan's most convenient shrine visits, with the massive first torii gate visible immediately upon exiting the station.

Fushimi Inari Taisha
3 hoursExplore the entire Fushimi Inari shrine complex—Japan's most important Inari shrine with its iconic thousands of vermilion torii gates. We visit the ornate main hall, observe worshippers making offerings, and hike through the famous Senbon Torii tunnel up Mount Inari. At the Yotsutsuji viewpoint halfway up, we enjoy panoramic views over Kyoto. The fox statues throughout are messengers of Inari, god of rice, sake, and prosperity.

Lunch near Fushimi Inari
1 hourRefuel after our shrine hike at one of the local restaurants by Fushimi Inari, before we head into the city. The area offers excellent inari sushi (named after the shrine), udon noodles, and traditional Kyoto dishes. Many restaurants have views of the shrine's iconic torii gates.

Kyocera Museum of Art
1 hourVisit Kyoto's oldest public art museum, beautifully renovated in 2020 with a striking glass ribbon entrance by architect Jun Aoki. The museum houses impressive collections of Japanese and Western art, with rotating exhibitions in stunning gallery spaces that blend historic 1933 architecture with contemporary design.

Heian Jingu Shrine
25 minMarvel at the stunning vermilion architecture of Heian Jingu, built in 1895 to commemorate Kyoto's 1,100th anniversary. The shrine is built at 5/8 scale after the original Imperial Palace, featuring a massive torii gate, spacious courtyard, and elegant main hall.

Shin-en Gardens at Heian Jingu
30 minExplore the exquisite Shin-en Garden, a masterpiece of Meiji-era garden design by the legendary architect Ogawa Jihei VII. Stroll around the serene pond and cross the famous stepping stones—the same path Scarlett Johansson walked in the film 'Lost in Translation'. Admire the elegant Taihei-kaku covered bridge and the weeping cherry trees.

Kyoto Station
Our journey ends at Kyoto Station—far more than just a station. This stunning architectural masterpiece by Hiroshi Hara features a dramatic glass atrium, rooftop garden with city views, and excellent shopping from department stores to local crafts. From the spiritual heights of Fushimi Inari to the magnificent Heian Jingu Shrine, this tour captures the essence of Kyoto's sacred beauty.
