Fushimi Inari & Nara in One Day

Set along the same train corridor south of Kyoto, Fushimi Inari and Nara make for one of Japan's great day trips. We'll kick off early at Fushimi Inari Taisha, hiking through tunnels of vermilion torii gates winding up Mount Inari. From there, a quick train ride takes us south to Nara – Japan's first permanent capital dating back to 710 AD. Here, we'll watch high-speed mochi pounding in the historic quarter, sit down for a local lunch, greet the free-roaming deer, and stand before the world's largest bronze Buddha at Todai-ji. The tour can start from either Kyoto or Osaka. If you've already seen Fushimi Inari, we add Isuien Garden and Nigatsu-do in Nara instead.

Choose Your Crafts
All 15 craft studios listed below are located in Tokyo. If you would like a hands-on craft workshop in Kyoto or another region, I am happy to arrange a local equivalent. Your first choice becomes the morning workshop, the second is after lunch.

5 minWe'll meet in the morning and take the local train five minutes south to Inari Station, kicking off our day at Fushimi Inari before the big crowds arrive.

Fushimi Inari Taisha
