Fuji & Hakone

We take the train from Tokyo to Hakone and visit Hakone Shrine beside Lake Ashi. A sightseeing cruise takes us across the lake to Togendai, followed by the Hakone Ropeway up to the volcanic valley of Owakudani. We enjoy lunch in Owakudani, then continue by ropeway and cable car to Gora and take the mountain train back towards Hakone-Yumoto, before we return to Tokyo. In clear weather, Mount Fuji rises beyond the lake and mountains, with scenic views from the boat and ropeway.

Local flavors
Allow about 9–10 hours from Tokyo and back, with an early departure. We use trains, one local-bus leg, the sightseeing boat, ropeway and cable car — no private vehicle is needed. Romancecar seats require advance reservation. Your transport, meals and attraction tickets are paid for separately. The outside-Tokyo travel surcharge applies. Times are approximate; queues, traffic, weather or service closures may require changes.

Shinjuku Station
5 minWe begin the day at Shinjuku Station in the early morning and take the Odakyu Romancecar to Hakone-Yumoto. The meeting point and train departure are agreed in advance.

Hakone Shrine and lakeside torii
35 minWe walk through the cedar-lined grounds of Hakone Shrine and down towards its red torii gate by Lake Ashi. We keep the visit focused on the shrine and lakeside setting, without joining a long queue for a photograph directly beneath the gate.

Hakone Ropeway
30 minFrom Togendai, we take the ropeway towards Owakudani via Ubako. Lake Ashi falls away below us and the surrounding mountains come into view. In clear weather, Mount Fuji can also be seen. The time allows for boarding as well as the ride; queues may take longer.

Owakudani
40 minSteam rises from the volcanic slopes around Owakudani. We explore the accessible viewing areas and, if you wish, try the local black eggs cooked in hot-spring water. According to local folklore, each egg adds seven years to your life.
Lunch in Owakudani
45 minWe take a lunch break in Owakudani before continuing towards Gora. We choose a restaurant according to availability and your preferences; the meal is paid for separately.

Shinjuku Station
5 minWe return to Shinjuku together in the evening. Arrival time depends on the day's connections and train departures.
